A new innovation

This computer center aims to provide an alternative support structure and a new innovative rehabilitation scheme for Non-Governmental Organizations and Governmental Organizations. It will eventually arrest the growing number of out-of-school youth, street children, and juvenile delinquency.

Designed to create an atmosphere, the center will nurture the child's best development. It will provide opportunities to appreciate the new technologies and promote awareness and an update of the new realities of information technology.

Providing the disadvantaged children with an access to information technology, the program also involves, for the grassroots, community based groups and institutionalized children an access to the computer hardware.

The program is divided in three components :

• Computer education : Providing the necessary skills in DOS and Windows 95 environments, this course holds two levels. Level 1 concerns the data processing concepts and components of computer system in Word Processing (MS Word) and Spreadsheets (MS Excel). Level 2 deals with graphic presentation and enhances the creativity of the trainees, making the presentation more convincing and impressive.
• Value formation : Through case work, this course contributes to the development and rehabilitation of those students who are institutionalized or center based children. In the course of the training, activities leading to an atmosphere of camaraderie are introduced. Furthermore, guidance and counseling are being provided to encourage a positive and appropriate social behavior.
• Job placement : This is the final course. The center provides access to employment through referrals to different business, industrial, and manufacturing establishments.

Goals and objectivestop

The program's goals and objectives serve as guidelines and help determine the effectivity of the implementation of the different courses.

• Training and developing out-of-school youth and street children to become productive and responsable citizens of the country,
• Providing out-of-school youth and street children with computer programs,
• Developing the technical skills of the children/trainees,
• Providing a career guidance towards technical training, leading to employment,
• Establishing a linkage with different GOs, NGOs, and other community based groups.

Alouette's actionstop

In almost two years of existence, the center has been able to provide a computer education to 500 youths and children. Equiped with computer skills, these children now hold opportunities to become productive and responsable citizens of the country.
